The long drive to Cooktown......

We have done the drive of a lifetime, Sydney to Cooktown, it took us 6 days to get there.

The basket is made from Coconut palms and a guy was making them on the street & the pearls were from Port Douglas I love them both......

This is The Mirage at Port Douglas we stayed there for 4 nights, it was just beautiful....

Now what can I say about this guy, he has made a lasting impression on me, I never want to see one again really, he was around 4 metres long and he was very fast in the water, followed us around and looked quiet unimpressed that we were in his territory...there was also 2 females not to far away from him, a lot finer featured & smaller.....

The main street of Cooktown, well it was busy that day.....not much was open as it is the wet season.....

This is Willie Gordon with my kids, he is the most amazing man, a true gentleman in everyway. We did his 2 hour tour that turned into a 3.5 hour tour, it was amazing, we all loved it.....if ever you get up that way please do the tour, you will not regret it......

Black Mountain, strange place all the rocks are grey but there is a lichen that is only up there that covers them & they are all black.....Many people have gone missing from this mountain never to be found....as I said strange place.....

This was the view as we were coming into Cooktown, this was in all directions, don't know how many trees but I would say lots......

Inside the Unit

It has 5 offices, too many for us but we will use some of them as a showroom & it even has a upstairs that is the same size as the bottom floor.
The unit was used as showroom so it is in really good condition, it is the best unit we have ever seen and we have looked at lots.
Lucky our eldest finishes School early in November so he will have a job over the holidays, that includes his buddies as well.
It is probably the worst time to move but we don't have air-conditioning here & it will be great to have it.

We brought a factory unit for our business, it settles next month and we can't wait.
It is fully air-conditioned and nearly twice the size of what we are in now.

A little bit of product placement.....one of my friends at school has come up with this fantastic device, it's a must have for anyone with a Nintendo DS, it keeps all the games together so that you can't misplace them......you know what kids are like, they put their games down & then they have lost a $90 game, are they your favorite child then, I think not.......

She has 4 kids & came up with the idea after one of her kids lost a game.

It's a great gadget & she has put her heart & soul into developing it.

Our eldest son is 16 today, the years have gone so very fast. He is mad on Android phones & stuff so his table setting is done with all of the types of Android systems, They start with cupcake then go to donut, eclair, fro-yo, gingerbread & honeycomb.
I probably have all of those wrong but it's something like that.....
He also can get his "L"'s so be warned he will soon be on the road....

Oh, what could you do with this, I would love to live in this building, it is just stunning. We found it yesterday when we were walking up to pick up the "working one", but didn't have the camera, a different story today.
We caught the train out to Spotswood to go to Scienceworld, had a great time but it was really crowded, it has a test yourself against Cathy Freeman, well, yes we had to do it, my time was 3.78 ( I am sure it was quicker) & the youngest's time was 2.14 & Cathy's time was 2.00, so back to some training if I want to take my position on the Australian Olympic Team for London......
We went up to Chinatown to have dinner but with two kids that think cheese or butter on pasta is disgusting things were bound to end in tears.......so a few prawn crackers & 2 meals that all they ate were the noodles & that was our dining experience (bring on Christmas, we are heading deep into China with no McDonald's, that will be interesting, rice for all 3 meals)
We tried to get into the Tim Burton exhibition but the line was too long, will try again tomorrow.

Well here it is the arcade that I just have to go into, the people are electric. They are there all the time & much to my son's horror we have to walk through there just to have a sticky at what they are all wearing.
Some of them have gear that has huge spikes sticking out of it, nothing like what my local Target has in their fashion section.
I just love their style & their individuality not that I could ever do it...way to boring I think.....

The MCG

We have touched the turf of that famous ground, we did the tour today & got a special treat because Collingwood came in to train, as we were walking down the hall from the dressing rooms they were going in, damn if only we were a bit later..... Some of their guys are very tall & very well built, not that I was looking..........much!!!!!
We then headed to the National Sports Museum & that was great, lots of interactive stuff for both kids & adults.
We played Netball, AFL, Cricket, Soccer (that goal keeper sucked) cycling (I got 400mtrs before I fell in a huge heap, it was really hard), it kept us occupied all day we were there when it opened & left about 2.30. Caught the tram back & as usual ended up at a stop that we didn't want to go to, a quick walk back to the right stop & we were on our way again.
Lydia Lassila the Olympic Gold medalist in the Aerial skiing was there & I was picked for a trivia contest with her & a 10yr old boy, well I came second to the kid, had to let him win....with questions like " How many players have won a Brownlow Medal 3 times?" how would I know!!!! he did but.

Isn't this just beautiful? It's the Block arcade & in the foreground you can see the Hopetoun Tea rooms....yum,yum,yum. We drop the boy off every morning & head straight in there, we look in all the windows & then head straight to the Haigh chocolate shop for our morning fix.
Maybe not this morning cause after he finished work yesterday we hit the Lindt store & guess who's eyes were bigger than their stomach???
Chocolate waffles with chocolate ice cream & chocolate sauce it looked fantastic but way to much chocolate, oh & the drink to go with it, a hot chocolate of course.
We found another arcade yesterday but we only got to the middle & turned around & came out quick smart there was a group of young ones in there, some were punks, some were well just very different, one girl was bald with a spray of green hair in the front, another one was smoking something that was about 1/2 metre long. What was it, I don't know but it looked weird, they did look quite amazing though.
We are off to the hallowed grounds of the MCG today, to go the sports museum. The weather has been bitterly cold with a wind that I am sure is coming from Antartica, it has rained everyday since we got here, it is weird because one minute it's sunny & then it's pouring down.

How cute is this, the bigger baby is Mali she is 9 months old & weighs 450kgs the little one is a boy & is 2 weeks old he now weighs 165kgs with a birth weight of 140kgs. As you have probably guessed we are in Melbourne, we will be here for a week, the eldest is doing work experience down here at a game programming studio so I have both the kids with me.

We have sort of mastered the trams even though today we went to the zoo & had to catch the Number 55 tram which came in just as we got to the crossing, on we hopped & then got to the end of the line when we asked the driver where was the zoo, only to be told you have gone the wrong way, right number but wrong side of town & we thought we were so clever.......

We have a new addition to our family, a 10 week old silver minature poodle, she is just adorable. We got her on Friday night & she has been so good, she cried a little on Friday night when she was left in the laundry to sleep, but she didn't cry last night at all.
We had to get our beloved whippet put down about 9 weeks ago & it was terrible, our youngest cried for ages, it was in the holidays so he was at home & he had heaps of time to think about it. Then to top it off he broke his arm, so was not one of the best holidays that we have had.
So we have this beautiful little girl to love,, she is black at the moment but with silver under her fur, when she has her first haircut she will loose all the black & turn silver.

And the total look, we are having having a smoke machine going outside the front doors, with lasers & we have changed the front light globe to be a black one (you know the one that makes white glow).

I have curtains to go around the bottom verandah bit in front to the front doors, so hopefully the overall look will be great, that's the plan anyway......

Not sure how many we have coming I think around 30, I cleaned the garage out on Tuesday in between taking the youngest to the dentist & doctors omg, there was so much stuff, the charity store got most of it so hopefully they will make some money out of it....

I've gone off track again, the garage is air-conditioned so we have set up a table tennis table & we have a slurpie machine & heaps of music in there, fingers crossed that it will keep the kids occupied for a little while....

How time fly's, we have been in the house for a year, would I do it again omg yes, I would do it 10 times over, I miss every part of the build, I just wish that I knew that when we were doing it.........

The plants are doing well, we have lost a few, especially the ones that the council made us put in, they curled up their heels really quickly & went to plant heaven...

We are having a party tonight for the indoor cricket team that the youngest play's in they lost last week so no grand final tonight, he couldn't play because of his arm which was a shame cause he usually gets some good runs.

We are off to a Macquarie Street specialist on Monday for him to take a look at his arm, it is still hurting him , he has had x-rays & CT scan's & the break is still there.

My hubby & I have just finished a Cricket Umpiring course at the SCG, the exam is next Thursday night with a 85% pass mark, hopefully I can prove my son wrong & pass, he thinks I have no chance.......

I think that all the guys that I did the course with have the same opinion, as I was the only female it would be nice to get the win for the girls....there is a Ashes test coming up maybe I should make myself available!!!!!

We would win for sure if I was umpiring..........

Don't know why I did it but I came home from work & decided to change the "Good Room" around.

There is not really that much I can do to it but I decided that it needed a change.....

Well it's probably a boring post cause all that I changed was the tables but I sort of liked the change.

Where did it get the name you ask? It comes from the fabulous series "Kath & Kim" they have a "Good Room" so why can't we!!!

We don't really use it, my Dad sit's there when they come over & my son's bestie's Mum sit's there when she comes over but other than than we don't use it.

I just love to shop, but only certain kinds of shopping, one is anything for the house & the other is fresh food shopping, you know the kind when you go to a farmers market & find all the yummy things that are just waiting for you to take them home.

Well I am a lucky duck ( my husband doesn't think so), as I am able to access certain things wholesale, so what that means is that I can change things often.

Well it goes something like this, we walk in I see something that I like & I then decide I need it for that spot I have been looking for ages to fill, it's just "perfect" I say, but then the next time I go I see something else that is also "perfect" so the problem then becomes where do I put all these "perfect"things????

We went a few weeks ago & found heaps of those "perfect" things but last week we went again & I had seen the fish the week before but didn't take too much notice of them until that "perfect" flash went through my brain......

What about for in front of the fish painting, I thought will that work? who knows, if it doesn't maybe they could sit in the garden near the bowl that has water in it waiting for the frogs to jump in & lay there eggs so we can have a bunch of tadpoles....but as yet they haven't liked the bowl that is there especially for them......oh well....

Anyway back to the fish I put them on their table & I quite liked them, the kids liked them & my husband went "oh, nice" (man of very few words, I make up for him, in that area).

So do they fit there or is there another "perfect" something out there just waiting to knock the fish off???? only time will tell...

Jessica Watson that is...... Yes, we met her, she signed my son's back-slab & her book & I went off one happy chappy.....

She is lovely, very unassuming & thinks that she hasn't done anything that was that remarkable, well guess what?? I do, but after reading some of her book, she said that she had wanted to sail around the world as a 12 year old. My youngest is 11 & I couldn't see him sailing down the river by himself at that age, but if it was a jet-ski that would be a different matter....

He also forgot to tell her that 2 of his mice are called "Jesse" & "Ella" the other mouse is a whole different story she should be called "Harriet Houdini" as she escapes through the bars of the cage & then sits on the top waiting to get put back in, which usually is ok but the days that the Kookaburra sits on the clothes line checking out whats going on in the yard is the day that she might become lunch. So now they have a cage that has no bars so she won't be the Kookaburra's next meal!!!!

Kids come in handy sometimes especially with a broken arm, she signed his plaster & he also scammed a poster that she signed for him. That poster will now go up in the library room as I needed something for one wall.....

Why the black & white? well our clothes clashed really badly, plus you can't see that my hair needs some work done to it & all those wrinkles are less obvious......

Did you know that Jessica's Dad had a TV rental business & they didn't have a TV, so that got me thinking what would you miss the most if any of the electrical things that have become a big part of our lives were taken away????......well for me it would probably be the TV, then the internet & then my phone( but that's not electrical is it)..
I will leave that one for you to think over...........

This is the fold out sofa on the other side of the library, and yes it houses only a quarter of my cookbooks, and yes I have a cookbook addiction........is there a cookbooks anonymous????....do I love all of them well no but I just don't have the heart to send them on their merry way....

Anyway back to the story, it's all about the boy, he has his nice red cast on but we will be back at the doctors tomorrow because it is rubbing on his thumb so not sure if they can fix it or if the will have to put another one on.

It has this special foam stuff inside it & that is what makes it waterproof, it seems that the foam stuff has come away from the plaster around his thumb & it is rubbing on him.

The Library

I say it all the time and I will say it again we are slowly getting there, this is the upstairs living area it was a total waste of space to us, because we have 3 living area's downstairs we were not using this room.
So we put our thinking caps on & came up with this, it has a queen bed sofa in there as well & it serves us well for when we have kids staying. Usually they want to sleep upstairs were everyone is so that they feel like they are not on their own.
Pictures are not up on the wall as yet because I'm not sure what I want for the other side so it can stay like this till we find something else.

The back slab is going on tomorrow & the full cast probably on Monday as it is too swollen for a full cast.
He did it at soccer training he hadn't even started he was wanting to try out to be the goal keeper for a week when their keeper was going to be away & something happened & he hit his arm on the post.
So no soccer, no indoor cricket, no winter cricket, no school sport & no huge bike ride that we were going to do with 8 boys in tow on Friday. Oh well hopefully he will be all good for the cricket finals & lucky it's his left arm as he can still bowl, but he is to try out for a Rep Cricket team as a bowler & wicket keeper that may now just be a dream, till next year.......

Ok so it was worth it in the end.....
What I can't believe is the amount of things that were out of date, not by a few months but years.The worst one was use by 2006!!!! wt...... we have only been there for 9 months, how did that one get through 2 moves????? the mind boggles!!!!
Oh well maybe I should take bets on how long it will look like this?????
Oh & see all the soup, it's for our youngest & they have deleted it so we have something like 100 cans of it. Hopefully by the time he uses it all up he will be sick of it!!!!!

We had a break from soccer & cricket over the weekend because of the terrible rain that Sydney has been having. So what should we do??? take a lie down, have a bit of a rest, No lets clean out the pantry!!!!
Well this is the result!!!! How is this possible we have been there for 9 months & all this came out of it.
My eldest son helped me & it took us all of Sunday afternoon & right into the night. Yes that is a pizza rapper in the garbage because that's all we could have & the ironing board became the table.
Husband is off to the tip as I type......

Well we are certainly getting there I moved the hall table to in front of the window in the back room (because I found a hall table that had drawers in it), we had a entertainment unit for this room on order but after 4 months of it not turning up I cancelled it. Off I go in search of something that would fit that I didn't have to wait months for (impatient, well yes that's me!!!). I went down to my favourite store Brescia at Alexandria (yes I am sure that the feeling is mutual) & found the TV unit pretty much as perfect a fit as I was going to get & they delivered it the next day. So then I need a coffee table & after looking everywhere in our spare 2 hours after cricket on Sunday we decided to go back to Brescia & we found this one, well its 2 really. I really wanted a marble one that was just stunning but it wasn't a white white & we needed the colour to match. My husband was really happy that it didn't match because in his words " you can buy a car for the price of that!!!" I have ordered a cabinet for the corner in this room & hopefully it will be ready soon.

Well she was over 2 hours late but she made it & we were there to see her, what an amazing sight, there were so many boats both big & small & everyone was just there to wish her well.
We waited for hours to see her but when that small pink sailing boat was visible it made it all worthwhile.
She is a fantastic role model & I for one must eat my words when I thought her parents were mad for letting her go by herself to sail around the world.
Congratulations Jessica on all that you have achieved I will miss your blogs but can't wait for your book to come out. It was a honour to be part of your celebrations today, thank you for sharing it with us.
On other news my youngest son is on crutches after stopping a ball that was hit for a 4 with his foot...all you young cricketers out there tip #364 don't stop a cricket ball with your foot!!!!
So thanks to him not being able to play soccer today we were able to go & watch Jesse come in....
Cricket tomorrow 20/20 to watch & then a cricket presentation in the afternoon.....spare time does anyone have any?????
Also good luck to the Aussie boys for the 20/20 final on Monday morning going up against England how good would that be to have a win tomorrow what a fantastic "long" weekend !!!!!

After waiting nearly 5 months the console that goes with our table finally arrived from Italy. I was so happy with it, I think that it goes perfectly with the table. We also received the replacement for the glass top that was scratched, so now no-one is allowed to go near it.... It is don't touch it, don't put anything on it, it is just for looking at....hahaha

We have been so busy with the kids sport it is stupid, our week goes something like this Monday- Cricket training, Tuesday - Soccer training, Wednesday - Music, Thursday -Soccer training, Friday- Indoor Cricket & then Newcombe Ball, Saturday- Soccer game & Finally Sunday a day of rest!!!! NO that is now 20/20 Winter Cricket & this little black duck is managing the team, hahaha got sucked into that one cause no one else would do it. So I also now have Cricket meeting's to attend, but to top it off I think that I might do the Umpiring Course so that I can umpire, I took on the scorer's job on Sunday & loved it & we don't have a Umpire for Sunday's game, if we can't find one one of the other Mum's & I are going to give it a crack.....we are not talking Australia v's England here so we might as well.
I have some more stuff on order when it comes & as soon as I get a chance I will pop some pic's on the blog.

One more thing fingers crossed for Jessica Watson as she comes up the coast back to Sydney, I have been following her blog since the beginning & I have promised our youngest that we will go in & see her, I was hoping that she would come in on a weekday but I think it might be the weekend & see above schedule for a spare weekend slot.......none I'm afraid.....
We are with you Jesse, keep up the great work....& we will see you in Sydney very, very soon.....

A close up of the rolled up newspaper nativity set. It is so lovely, there is so much work in the set it must take ages for the woman to make.
I also got myself some Christmas decorations made out of Coke cans & I love them as well, maybe not as much as I love that "diet coke"!!!!!!! that I am addicted to...........

We finally got a bedroom suite for us, I didn't want to wait the 8-10 weeks that they were quoting so I just thought if we find something it will be meat to be.....
Well I got a call from a Snooze shop that we had been in & they were moving & selling all their floor stock, so how about this we brought it at 8.00pm on a Thursday night & it was delivered at 9.30pm that night..... wt.........I thought that the white lounge was good but this one has topped the cake......
I have a picture being re-framed for behind the bed but it isn't ready as yet, also have to get my hubby to put up my ladies that are resting on my drawers.......

We have ordered & console for under where the Santa wall hanging is, it is coming from Italy (from the same manufacturer of the table) it won't be here till March or April.
Hopefully they will remember to order it not like the lounge (different shop thought).......
I found a scratch on the table & I was mortified I asked a glass polisher to see if he could take it out, but he said it was too deep & you would see where he had done it. I thought that it was from a handbag or something that we had done but he said it had been done with a knife.
I spoke to Brescia & told them what had happened & they said that it must have been done when they opened the packaging . Well the best news is that they have ordered the panel from Italy & are replacing it for free.
I thought that because I didn't see it that they would have said its your problem not ours...but they didn't & we will have a new panel on it probably sometime in January..
I was so happy with their service & commitment to their customer that I have told anyone that will listen to me rabbit on........

Everything has been Christmased (is that a word???it is now).

I have a white hall stand & it was the perfect spot for my new Nativity, it came from overseas & it's made up of rolled up newspapers, it would take them ages to make.
The woman make them in villages to make ends meet, I just love it.

A new lounge for my lounge room, this is where I spend most of my time when I am not in the kitchen or doing other stuff.
We went for leather again & it's really comfy I just lay on the 3 seater & sometimes fall asleep, still don't have a pic for the wall but we will find one soon I hope.

I have been so so busy, I thought that it would all stop once we moved in but it has got worse.
The kids have been on holidays for 2 weeks & we are off down the coast on Sunday to do our annual Christmas run with my 2 (getting too big to be) elves........ We drop off our customers Chrissy presents, it's fun to do & we can go to the beach after we have finished all our work.
This is our lounge room that hardly gets used, have got a couple of new lamps & a bit of Chrissy stuff.....

We got one!!!! that's the lounge. It is beautiful & the best thing was I went to have a look at it on Thurday night after Cricket training,that was after my husband had found it late on Thursday afternoon. Then my husband & eldest son came over & we paid the deposit at 8.00pm & they delivered it at 1.00pm on Friday. Now that is service for you.
After the lounge arrived I went looking for a rug & found 2 that I liked, my husband found 2 more & brought 4 rugs home to try them & we liked this one the most.
It is Analine leather & it is so comfortable & soft to touch.

New dining room table

Our new dining room table arrived a week or so ago, but I haven't had a lot of time to take a pic of it. But here it is now, I love it. That is much to my husbands horror as the table we had would not sit straight where the glass extensions met. They had 4 goes at getting it right but it just would not sit right, so I decided that we would go & have a look at a different table as we were not meant to get that one.
So we went to Alexandria on a Thursday night & I found this one, it's Italian with the most beautiful leather seats & they are so soft & smooth, but it came with the huge price tag. Oh well I think that it's gorgeous even though the husband & son like the other one!!!!!!

So today brought a few more drama's to our life, we brought a new leather lounge from Myers back in the beginning of June & was told that it would take around 12 weeks to arrive. The delivery date was the 2/9/09 so yesterday I started chasing it again as I am sick of not having a lounge in the room that it was for.
After no real answer I called again today & was told that I would get it delivered either late this week or early next week. Then I get a call from the company that Myers ordered the lounge from only to tell me that there was a delay & it would be another 8 weeks till we got the lounge.
Well, NO it won't be another 8 weeks because I have cancelled it, I then rang Myers & told them & I also am going to send the rug back that we brought to go with the lounge. After all this the guy at Myers called me back & then told me that the supplier hadn't even ordered the new lounge. Well that is fantastic customer service I would say!!!!! Not!!!!!
And then to top the day off, we are still waiting for the cheque from the Real Estate for the rent that we are owed & some emergency electrical work that had to be done on the house that we paid for. After chasing them for around a month, the girl that I have dealt with told me to take them to the tribunal to get the money back!!!!
So I rang the tribunal & they said they have 14 days from the date of the electrical work being done to give us the money back for that & it was done on the 25/7 a lot more than 14 days, I would think!!!
I was so angry with them, we used to pay our rent 8 weeks in advance, we got the bond back on the 20/8 & she tells me to take them to the tribunal. Well you know what, I will because now they have got me really angry, so I have started the process today they have 7 days to pay the money or it's off to court we go!!!!

Long thin windows...

We had problems with the long thin windows with the blinds, in hindsight I should have put plantation shutters but I got these so it's a case of live with it....
What happened is that the chains were made the same size drop as the windows but when you tried to bring the roller down it didn't roll down smoothly at all. So the chains were all changed to be longer to make them roll down better, it has worked but I don't think that I would have these again in the windows that are this shape.

The media room has them as well & we are still working out whether to put a pelmet at the top to cover the light that is coming in.

I have been asked about the blinds that we have in our house. We have double rollers the first blind is the sunscreen one, during the day you can see out with no trouble at all but at night it reverses & the outside can see in but you can't see out.
That is why you have the double blinds so that you can use the blockout blind at night & during the hot summer days.

He came back this afternoon & he has seemed to have settled in really quickly (let's hope that I don't jinx myself).
He is so thin & the vet told my husband that he was refusing to eat (so he went on a hunger strike in protest). They called into work on their way home & I had some chicken that was left over from my lunch & he ate it up so quickly & was looking for more. I have feed him 3 times already as I want him to get a lot of little bits of food, to try & fatten him up.
We won't take him for a walk outside as someone will report me for sure as they will think that I have starved him. He is skinny anyway but he is a bag of bones at the moment.
We also have got some tadpoles in a water bowl in the garden so we will keep an eye on them & hopefully soon we will have frogs.....

We have a backyard, the kids have been kicking the ball around & climbing the tree. A friend suggested that we get a seat built around the tree in the middle. We had a couple of girls over from school yesterday & they were in the tree as well. It's a weed tree but it's a great climbing tree, I wonder who will break their arm first??? Our dog is coming home today, he has been at the kennels for 3 weeks so I am sure that he will have lost a huge amount of weight, he misses us heaps but he will be back up to his skinny self in no time (he is a whippet, so he is really skinny anyway).
I have been planting some of the plants that I had in pots along the fence & I think that I will get some other plants over the weekend, hopefully the weather will be good.

The shed went in last week but we can't use it as it has to have silicone put around the bottom & there is a piece on the top that is wrong. They are due back either today or tomorrow our doggy is at the kennels as we haven't had fences, we now have fences down both sides but no gates.
He will love his new yard as the poor bugger has had astro turf at the rental house, he will also be able to run around.

The landscapers came today & they have leveled out the backyard & put a heap of soil on top of that. They will lay the turf tomorrow & I can't wait for that as it is so very dirty & dusty out there. As soon as they did their bit in the yard it looked 100% better so I am sure when the turf goes down it will look fantastic.
I now have a clothesline, gave it a big workout yesterday with the lovely weather that Sydney put on for my new line......
The dining room table has gone back, they brought out a replacement bottom for it (as it wasn't sliding properly) but they couldn't fix it so they took everything back. I now have 10 chairs & nothing to put them under......

This is our eldest son's room, his desk & shelves & bedside table came yesterday so he spent last night sorting them out. He is a total neat freak & this room will look like this all the time, he even brought the vacuum upstairs for me to give it a once over. We are going to look for a smaller bookcase or something to fill the gap between his desk & shelves up. He doesn't want anything on the walls as yet but we might find something that he likes. I think that it really suits him & he loves it so that is the main thing.

The screen door on the triple stacker opens to look like this. I went to open the other door but the blinds have been put too close to the door & I can't open it. So I will get on to the blinds guy to come back out & fix it.

The blinds are in, I still haven't found the perfect picture for the wall behind the bed, but I am looking.
I made this quilt for our bed for the other house that we were building but when it all went pear shaped I lost interest in it. Anyway I got my act together & finished it off & here it is. We brought a new bed for ourselves & it doesn't fit on it so the guest bedroom gets to use it.
I just need to find a couple of bedside lights for here & the picture & this room will be finished.

It's still the same story, it looks much better here than in the photo. I will try again to see if I can get some sort of a better pic for you, in the night the wires all reflect off the ceiling & they look like a wire sculpture on the ceiling.

The blinds went in today & one side of the fence, the other side will be done tomorrow. The blinds need some adjustment so Glen will be back over tomorrow to fix the ones that are not working properly. Will take some pics in the morning. Have got lots happening tomorrow, deliveries coming, clothesline going in & some of the Mum's from School coming for a look.....

Our youngest son's indoor cricket team got knocked out last week so they are not in the Grand Final on Friday but we are still having the sausage sizzle this Friday for them. I haven't been into School for the last 2 weeks as there has been way to much going on, so I am not sure how many kids we will get. They also have their Athletics Carnival on Friday so hopefully they will all be really tired & go home early!!!!

The Media room got it's first screening on Saturday night, the eldest son & his mate watched a DVD along with my husband. The chips & drinks all went in with them & they did come out a few times for refills but it was a big success.

The light is in....

It is really hard to take a pic that does this light justice. Everyone that has seen it so far has said "Wow" so I am not sure if they hate it or love it. Even the kids came home after it had been installed & that was what they said, but they think it's just fantastic.

It is reflecting off the glass so you get to see it twice, as you walk in the door you see it first in the glass & then as you walk in & look up you get the whole thing. I think it is divine & it certainly makes a statement, it took the electrician till 2.30 yesterday to get it in. we had to hire scaffolding to install it as each of the crystals were hung individually. I unwrapped all the crystal things while my husband went over to the rental & cleaned out the shed & did the back yard.

I took the keys back to the Real Estate this morning, talk about being treated like the dirt at the front door by the girl that took them. I think that she thought that she was much better than I was, as I was just handing back keys to a rental property!!!! I am sure she would have changed her attitude if I was the landlord.... Anyway she was doing the inspection this afternoon at 4.00 she said that I could go if I wanted to be there but I had kids that were coming home from School so it was much more important to be with them!!!!!

Dining Room

They delivered the rest of the chairs yesterday & there was also a problem with the way the table moved when you extended it. The guys that originally delivered it said that when they delivered the chairs they would fix it, but when they saw it they said that it needed to be replaced as it couldn't be fixed. So I am still waiting on a call from them as to what is going to happen.

The electrician is here at the moment installing the video monitor, you can see the screen in the pic (it's also his tools on the floor)

I have the guy here applying the sealer on all the showers, we have only been using the main bathroom shower so that it was easier for them to apply it to all the other showers & tiles. He said that you will only have to wipe it over with a damp cloth to clean it so no more bleaches or shower spays as we won't need them. Will see how it goes.

We are really happy with all the lights that are in, I love the one over this table. All the others in the downstairs area are the same but don't hang down.

We are going to use it for a while, not sure what we were thinking when we picked this colour. it did go in both the other houses & because it is in the leisure room you can't see it from anywhere in the house unless you are in that room. We have other things to spend money on at the moment so it will have to stay for a little while. I got new cushions made to try & make it fit in a little better. The rug is for the room next to the dining room but that lounge is about a month away so I will use it there for the time being.
I call it hideous but a friend visited yesterday & commented on our new lounge!!!!!

There has been some talk about a gap around the window frames of their houses. It did happen to us as well but this is how it has been fixed & unless you knew it was there I am sure that you wouldn't notice it. The window that it concerns is the one on the right of the pic, now to the right of that window the aluminium strip is wider than on the other sides of the windows. Trust me you will not notice it at all, in the Impression it is the WIR window.
Notice the beautiful sheet curtains that we have, my husband made them, we will be taking orders very soon so if anyone is interested you to could have the same look!!!!!!

All the blinds are due to be installed on Monday, it will be good to have them in......

We have been so busy, the removalist's were I thought booked to come on Monday at 7.00am but when they were not there at 7.30 I called them to see if they were on their way, only to be told oh no you are booked in for Tuesday....... So we didn't get all our stuff in till yesterday. The garage has most of our stuff in it & I have been sorting through it all very slowly. Some things will have to go into the shed, which won't be installed until tomorrow. I am going over to the rental to give it a clean with the cleaning lady tomorrow, so I will be going between the two houses.
So why do we have only 4 chairs & we should have 10, they delivered 6 but I sent 1 back because it had a scratch on it, well they called yesterday to say that all the chairs will be delivered on Thursday. We are thinking of hanging the picture in the niche up, it should hang the other way so I have put it there to see if I can live with it.

Downstairs Guest Room

It's a really hard room to photograph, but this is the best I could do. I used my youngest son's summer quilt cause the one that I have for this bed is on our bed at the moment. I know that it doesn't match but it is only temporary.
We will put a chair at the desk in the corner so it will become a laptop desk, so if anyone stays they will be able to surf the net. We will also put in a TV, I am not sure what type at the moment.

It so feels like home, even yesterday in all the mess it was just gorgeous.

The kids are loving it, I still have to get the fences finished hopefully that will be next week. And then they can start on the landscaping. So much to do & so little time......Who said that????

The Pantry is getting there

My Mum & a friend packed everything in the pantry on Friday, but that night I decided to change it around. It is still a work in progress, but it's happening.

All my cookbooks are still to come over so looking at what is left in the shelf department I think that I am in big trouble......

It was so good today to just walk in & grab what I needed, the kids wander in & out with food all day.....

We are in, really really tired but very happy. We had our handover at 7.30am on Friday & there was a huge surprise waiting for me in that our CSO was here (unfortunately she left Wisdom a month ago). It was so good to see her & she is as much a part of this build as we are (the beautiful flowers were a gift from her).
We moved some of our stuff in, most of the beds, we have sheets on the window's in the front until the blinds are ready in around a week.
The kitchen did not look like this last night & I don't want to blog the pic as it was a bit like a bomb site.......But today is another story, I had a roast in the oven (when I took the pic) & we have had a baked dinner, I have cupcakes in now so far so good.

Our dishwasher won't go in until next week, but I can wait for that.......

The stairs went in today as well, they have a 90mm top rail with 50mm stainless uprights & 3.2mm stainless wire through them. This is what we do for a living & of course we wanted to use this in our home, we think it looks great & are very happy with it (but we are biased of course).

Driveways are done, painting done, fly screens are in, balustrading is done, privacy screen is in, dunny gone, fence gone, still a bit of rubbish out the front (but I am sure that will go) & she is ready for her new owners..... That's were we come in..... Tomorrow morning at 7.30am will be there to get the keys to our new home. Can I wait??? well that would be a big fat No, & am I sad that it has finished???? That would be a big fat Yes.....
I went to the Bank to get the cheque today & as I waited for the teller to print it out, the tears welled in my eyes as I thought, this is it, I won't be going to the Bank to get any more cheques for our house, I won't be going over there with enthusiasm to see what has happened that day, I won't be getting the coffee's & doughnuts for whoever is working there. This is the end of this chapter, I know that it is only just beginning for us but I was sad & as I walked out of the Bank the tears rolled down my face.

Tomorrow will be a busy day as we move some of our stuff into the new house & fluff around over there.

Are we happy with it, Yes were are, everything has turned the way that we hoped it would, the kids are waiting impatiently for their new room & tomorrow they will take the day off to share in the excitement that the new house will bring.

Looks messy now, but after all the offcuts are gone it will look like our carpeted bedroom. We are so so close now & I am so so excited.
I am calling tomorrow "Super Thursday" there are so many people due to do their things at "our place" (can I call it that) that it will be so much fun to see.
Only 2 more no sleeps for us now (I call it no sleeps cause that's how much sleep I am getting)
Hopefully I will like camping at our new house if not I will go back to the rental & live in the quiet without the kids.....
The Real Estate called yesterday to ask if it was possible for us to be out for next Friday, I want to get the house all clean & lovely so I will call them on Monday to let them know.

The concretors have formed up the driveway in preperation for tomorrows's pour.
I have changed the removalist to come on Monday as I was concerned that they would damage the concrete as they were taking in all our stuff.
We will do the camping on the floor on the weekend (for anyone that knows me, I don't do camping so this will be something new!!!) my husband says that I think that camping is a 4 star hotel!!!

The side & the back of the house have been concreted today but after they did it I think that the neighbours cat decided that it was a really nice place to go for it's morning walk!!!!!

Oh well the guys got it out so hopefully the cat has done it's morning exercise now & next time it comes over the concrete will be dry!!!!

The glass shower screen is in the ensuite, the glass door is on but it needs a little adjustment, as it won't stay closed.
The windows in the en suite were to be made translucent but something went wrong & when the guys turned up to change the glass over they only had the middle panel.....oopsie someone made a boo boo!!!!

So we have clear glass on either end & translucent in the middle!!!!!

The shower screens are in & the mirrors are also in. The toilet paper has disappeared, not sure what has happened but someone has replaced the good toilet paper with cheap hard awful stuff. I'm thinking what the...... I could not believe that someone would take the toot paper, oh well I hope that they put it to good use!!!!!

All that stress over the stand-off's being scratched in the air freight shipment that we got is all behind us now. I remember opening the box to find them so badly damaged that I nearly chucked the biggest wobble on the planet. My husband was overseas so I thought better of it as it wasn't worth the effort as no-one would have seen it anyway.
They remade them, packed them individually in layers & layers of bubblewrap & sent them again. We had them custom made so that the stand-off 's (the bottom one) & the handrail fitting were the same size.

The stairs have to be sanded & lacquered again so they will be a little bit darker than what is coming up in the pic here at the moment.

What can I say??? Heaps I would think, I am now in love with something else, it's 12mm thick & it looks amazing. It's my glass balustrade with 45mm stainless steel stand off's on the bottom & 45mm hand rail supports on the top. The handrail is 38mm brushed stainless steel tube, I am beside myself only the kids and myself have seen it as my husband is at work. Grandma & Grandpa are on their way over to have a look lets hope that everyone likes it.
We are so close now the carpets may go in tomorrow, my stomach is jumping I don't think that I will be able to stand the wait.

Balcony Top Rails on.....

Have just come into work & here I am blogging had to post the pic's for everyone to see (is my husband going to sack me???? I don't think so!!!)
The balcony top rails went on, they are brushed stainless steel the sizes are 50mm on the top with 38mm tube on the uprights & a 16mm tube in between, with cover plates over the base plates.
Once the covers come off the inserts in the front door I think that they will tie in really nicely.

Hot Water Thingo.....

So that's the technical term, but this is used to make the hot water circulate around the pipes so that when you turn the hot water tap on, you will get hot water. Hopefully it will help to stop the wasting of water while you wait for the hot water to get to you.

I don't know if it works as yet because the hot water system hasn't been installed & we won't get it installed until after handover.

As I type this the glass is going in!!!!! I am going back over there to see it finished they were drilling in all the stand off's when I was there (with a template) as the glass is too heavy to drill them while holding onto it. I could see the glass in the van, I just can't wait to see it in, I was awake at 4.13am this morning counting down the hours. Lets hope that I love it!!!!!

I went looking for a pic of the front of the house with the right doors on & with it all painted but couldn't find one. So I went over there this morning & had to rectify that, so here it is, still with the outside dunny but you get the idea.

The concretors are due to start on Friday, yippee on that front so much is waiting on them getting their bit done. It looks like we are around 2 - 3 weeks away from handover & then we will move in the week after that, it will then mean that we will be out of the rental for the date that they wanted us out for.

Our SS has moved heaven & earth for this to happen & we are eternally grateful to him for everything that he has done. Thank you is just not enough sometimes.......

Down The back

I haven't ventured out past the kitchen lately, but I took a walk down the backyard to have a look at how the tiles look now that they have been laid on the Alfresco area.

The grass is huge & it was still a bit wet, I was looking out for some wildlife in the grass, I was sure that there would be a snake down there!!!

Not much more to go, the concreter's are due this week, that leaves the shower screens, fly screens, paint touch-ups & carpet still to come.

The blinds have been ordered & the lights, but I think that I haven't ordered enough lights so I am doing a quick check on that one.

The privacy screen will be ready early next week & the glass balustrade is going in on Thursday, I am so looking forward to that.

First party at the new house will be the Under 12's Indoor Cricket Grand Final Party, how many kids will we have??? Probably about 20-25 plus parents so I am thinking of doing a sausage sizzle for after the final game with all of our team plus some of the other kids that go to the same school but play in a different team. What am I thinking!!!! Am I mad???? Well of course I am but I want our kids to have a home that their buddies can enjoy as well. For nearly 2 years we have been living in a house that is as big as a postage stamp & they haven't really had many friends visit as we just don't have the room for more than a few kids at a time.
So party time at the new house how will it fair???? Only time will tell!!!!

Light Fitting

We have picked this fitting for the void above the staircase. I had found a large aluminium ball that I thought would look good, but my husband & kids didn't like it (it was less than 1/2 the price of this one).

We went shopping yesterday & found this light, my husband liked it, that was until he found out the price, it's got a massive price tag, but hey you can't take it with you, so we might as well go the whole hog. But after getting our eldest son to photoshop it into the space & going back there today, we have decided that we love it & it will fit in the space that we want it to go in to.

We now can be called Mr & Mrs Upgrade.........& the upgrade kids...... (hope my Father's not reading this, he thinks that I am OTT!!)

Well this could be kitchen pic 8!!!! I have brought two white leather stools for under the bench in this photo. They are at home all wrapped up & ready to put in, can I wait???? well that would be a big no I would think!!!!
My eldest son said this morning, if they can't get the driveways poured can we move in anyway??? When I said no we will have to wait till that happens he said I can't wait Mum, I'm so excited.... He has never said anything about our new house, we have dragged them all over the place to pick the bricks & all the laminate & everything else that goes with it & we very rarely get any comments out of them. But to hear him today, he is excited & he wants to move in.......
They don't know it yet but I want to go light fitting shopping tomorrow, so I hope that their ipod & gameboy is charged........

I think I'm up to part 6 but yes this is another kitchen pic...... This time the covers are off the bench tops..... so I had to run my hand over them, the cleaners are in as I type & when I get over there this afternoon when I run my hand over that bench top it will be smooth & clean & not dusty like it was this morning.
As I am typing this I can feel my insides jumping I am getting excited now, well not excited I am busting from the inside out!!!!!! I don't want to get like that just yet, as we are not quite finished.

It's a but finished in this pic, just a little bit around the kitchen cupboards to be done & the I think that the tilers were really happy about that.

They are still putting down the edge tiles so that they can grout them, not sure who is coming in next, hopefully the painters will turn up soon to touch up & then there is really not much more to do.

We had an eventful morning, the Real Estate called to ask could they come around & take a look at the house that we are renting, so no problems come on over. I then get told the owners are coming as well, oh no I've started packing I have boxes everywhere & the kids are on holidays. The eldest son & I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning & making the house beautiful so when 5 of them arrive at 8.15am this morning I am thinking this is just like a open house.
They were so happy they thanked us for keeping the house in the condition it was in & the lady owner said it looks much better than when they lived there. The Real Estate lady said she thought it was the best kept rental home she had ever seen. So everyone was happy, I'm happy that they are happy & they are happy that their home has been looked after. They were so nice they said if we need any extra time they will work with us so that we can stay, so it was a good morning all around.

The tiles are in but the same deal as the pantry, they are not grouted as yet. That will happen today as the tilers will be finished later this afternoon.

You can see what I mean about the cut in the tiles around the waterfall benchtop, very hard going. I know that I would have had a scrap heap full of tiles cut wrong. That's why I am not a tiler I suppose, I wouldn't make any money I would be buying tiles to replace the ones that I messed up.

I have probably have already said this but these tiles are the same colour (Ash) as the bathroom & laundry floor they are just a bigger size. They do look different depending on how much light is in the room. In the toilet they look a lot darker than on the floor downstairs.

The plan is the tiles will all be laid today with the grouting happening tomorrow.

The tilers have returned to continue the back breaking job of tiling with these monsters. They were still smiling at me this morning, maybe this afternoon that smile might not be there.
They were doing all the tiles that needed to be cut, it took longer than just laying the massive ones. They had so many cuts in them to go around the posts & the edges of the waterfall benchtop, its a art form cutting them. I know that I would be that's near enough it will do, but they are so very precise (that's fantastic for us).

The door handles are on but I forgot to check to see if the privacy locks were done, well yes they are & this is what they look like.

So we shouldn't have any unwanted visitors while being on the loo or having that relaxing spa!!!!!

The shelving has all gone in today, the pantry has got 4 shelves right around it. How many cookbooks can I fit in there?????
Can't wait to fill it up, even if I filled it as full as Woolworths my eldest son and his mate would have it cleared out in a week. My god teenage boys can eat, I just can't seem to fill them up.

Downstairs tiles...

Today brings the tilers back & they are starting the last of the tiles to be done. The downstairs living areas & kitchen well everything except the Media Room & the Guest's Bedroom ( I just changed it's name cause that's what we are going to use it for). The other rooms will have carpet.
The tilers were cursing me cause the tile's weigh a whopping 10kgs per tile & there is 4 in a box. Our poor tiler his back was killing him so I offered him some Panandol but he had already had some.
They are a bugger to lay we stayed & watched for a while & could see why he was cursing me. This is also why it cost a lot more to lay even though they are bigger than the standard tile.

Woo Hoo, the splashback is in. I went over earlier this morning to find the plumbers there fixing a leak from the bath. They were running all the taps to make sure that there was no other leaks, all is fixed now, so that is good news. The leak was found on Saturday afternoon & the plumbers were there first thing Monday to fix it, the water had been turned off so that no water could leak out over the weekend.

My husband went over to measure up the Media Room for their new Television & sound stuff & he went in & thought something was different but couldn't work out what it was. That was until the guys said to him did you see the splashback!!!!! So he gives me a call to tell me it's in & I have to wait for him to come back to work for me to go over.
As soon as he gets in I'm off to go & check it out. Pick up the kids plus a extra one & Grandma & off we go, I just get a laugh from them when I walk in. You know that laugh, I knew it wouldn't take you long to get here!!!! Oh well that's part of the fun of building isn't it????

I want to take all that cardboard off the benchtops but that will have to wait till the painting is finished & the silicone is all done.
